Signs you need a roof replacement

Not every emergency roof repair requires a replacement – but many do. Our roof inspectors will check to see whether or not your roof can be repaired, or if it needs to be replaced.

The signs that your roof needs to be replaced vary, but in emergency scenarios, the main sign you’ll need a replacement is typically severe damage to the structural integrity of the roof. Large holes, serious sagging, and widespread water damage are all signs that a replacement is warranted.

Common types of emergency roof repairs

We can divide the types of emergency roof repairs into two categories: the source of the damage, and the type of damage done:

Sources of damage

• Storms: High winds, hail, lightning, and even extreme snowfall can all cause damage to your roof.
• Falling objects: More often than not, the falling objects which cause damage to roofs are trees and branches – typically, they fall during storms. Other falling objects, such as utility poles, are more rare, but equally (if not more) damaging.
• Fire: Fires which start in the attic can often cause serious damage to the roof, even if the fire does not spread to other parts of your building.
• Water damage: While minor water damage rarely constitutes an emergency, serious water damage can undermine the structural integrity of your roof. A section of your roof may seemingly suddenly collapse due to unseen water damage.

Types of damage done

• Structural damage: This occurs when the structures that hold up your roof are damaged, and it can result in a section (or all) of your roof caving in.
• Flashing damage: This occurs when the metal sections of your roof that divert water away from protrusions (like vents and chimneys) are damaged. Water can then begin to leak into your building rapidly from the gaps between the protrusion and the roof.
• Shingle damage: Serious damage to your shingles can result in large gaps in your roof, allowing water to rapidly seep into the rest of your building.

These are just a few examples of damage where emergency roof repair is necessary. Neglecting to get repairs can lead to serious water damage, infestation, fire hazards, and more.
