Working in Calgary, the most common emergency roof repair calls we receive are for hail damage.
That’s completely understandable. Hailstorms are common here, and they can do devastating property damage. Calgarians are looking for security. They want a roofing contractor with years of experience. They’re looking for someone who can help them handle the insurance claim, inspect the damage, and repair any problems. They’re looking for a trustworthy contractor who won’t invent problems just to get a payday.
They’re looking for Martens Contracting.
We offer emergency hail damage repair to residential and commercial clients in Calgary. We repair all kinds of hail damage, regardless of what type of roof you have. And with free quotes and emergency, same-day service, we’re here when you need us.
Identifying hail damage on most types of property is relatively simple. Car damage? Check for dents. Patio furniture damage? Check for dents. Basically, if it’s metal, you can just check for dents, and you’ll know if there’s damage.
Roof damage caused by hail can be much more difficult to identify – even if you do have a metal roof. While you can identify some damage from the ground, for most damage you’ll need to climb up onto the roof – something we always advise you to leave to the professionals.
There are metal elements to almost every roof. Flashing, which diverts water away from protrusions in your roof, is made of metal – and can be dented and warped by hail. Metal roof vents are also susceptible to hail damage.
Your ridge cap – the section of your roof that protects any area where two sloped sides meet – is also susceptible to hail damage. The ridge cap will often take the brunt of the storm. Ridge caps can be made of asphalt or metal – and they’re one of the first spots your roofer will check for damage.
Hail damage on roofs can come in many forms. First, we look for missing pieces of asphalt. Granules can come off very quickly in a hailstorm, leaving tiles with little more than the black substrate. Parts of these tiles will be untextured – and unprotected.
There may also be “bruised” shingles – these are shingles with divots caused by hail. These dents and divots are often invisible to the naked eye, so a trained roofer will run their hands over the shingles to check for dimples.
Finally, your shingles may be cracked – this is pretty apparent, and cracked shingles should be replaced immediately.
There is no one set cost for hail damage repair – that’s why we’re happy to provide you with a free quote when we assess the damages. Factors that can affect the cost include:
These are just some of the many factors that may affect the cost of repairs. We can assist you through the insurance claiming process to help ensure your coverage is sufficient to conduct the necessary repairs.
