Roof Inspections In Calgary

When was the last time you got your roof inspected? If you can’t remember, it’s time for another inspection.

Calgary is the hailstorm capital of Canada. When brutal storms hit, it’s essential to get your roof checked for damage. If you don’t, leaks, damaged insulation, and serious structural deterioration can end up costing you a lot of time, money, and energy.

For a thorough roofing inspection, call Martens Contracting. We have decades of experience inspecting roofs in Calgary and the surrounding area. You’ll get a detailed assessment of any damage or defects, as well as our recommendations of what should be done to fix any problems.

Roof inspections for your Calgary home or business

Your roof should be inspected at least once a year – for older roofs, getting an inspection twice a year (once in the fall and once in the spring) is a good idea. And if you’re a business owner, regular inspections are an absolute must. They can keep your staff and customers safe – sometimes, they can even give you a discount on your insurance.

Generally, there are three circumstances in which we recommend roof inspections:

  • After a severe weather event
  • Once or twice a year in the spring and/or fall (preventive inspections)
  • Before you put your home or business on the market

Calgary has some of the most severe weather events in all of Canada. That makes roofing inspections especially important for Calgarians.

Martens Contracting has done roofing in Calgary and the surrounding area for decades. That means we know the lay of the land – the most common types of roofing material, the most typical signs of damage, and how to fix it all. We also know that insurers need detailed inspection reports before they’re willing to pay their share for damages. Our detailed reports will tell you and your insurer everything you need to know.

Objectives of a roof inspection

A roofing inspection has several objectives, including:

  • Assessing any potential damage to the roof
  • Verifying the structural integrity of the roof
  • Confirming that the roof is performing appropriately (properly drains water, etc.)
  • Identifying the materials used on the roof, and their condition
  • Identifying any repairs that are needed
  • Providing a detailed inspection report for clients and their insurers

The certified Calgary roofers at Martens Contracting will provide you with a detailed report once your roof inspection is complete. This report will detail everything we’ve listed above and more. You’ll know the materials used in the roof, how it was constructed, what damage (if any) is present on the roof, whether or not materials are deteriorating, organic growth issues, and even more.

Our 10 point roof inspection

Our comprehensive 10 point roof inspection plan means you’ll get all of the information you need to address any problems your roof may have.

  1. Needs analysis. We take your call or email request, then discuss the details of the inspection with you. Why is the inspection needed? Is it because of a storm? Is it preventive? Are you looking to sell your home or business? This information gives us insights into where we should start our inspection. We can also ask you questions about things like the age of the roof and the last time it was inspected.
  2. We begin our inspection from the ground, taking pictures all around your home. These pictures can show us early warning signs of problems – they’ll also act as documentation in case you or your insurance company need photos.
  3. We get up on the roof and begin our visual inspection. Serious damage will be immediately evident to us, as will any problems with flashing, missing shingles, and the like.
  4. We check the underlayment, the substrate between the top layer of roofing material (like shingles) and the roof sheathing. This is both to verify what the underlayment is made of, as well as to check for damage.
  5. From there, we check the brand and type of roof, as well as its age. This means checking the top layer of roofing material for quality and durability.
  6. We then begin to look for damage more thoroughly. This involves checking each part of the roof for cracks and holes, as well as for any missing or damaged shingles.
  7. After checking materials and substrate for damage, we inspect the valleys of the roof for any holes or cracks.
  8. We look for signs of hail damage – this can show up in missing shingle granules or dents in aluminum flashing. Signs of hail damage take priority if you’ve called us after a storm.
  9. Your gutters are an important part of our roof inspection. We check to see if there are any granules, which can hint at shingle deterioration. We’ll also check for a buildup of leaves, which should always be cleaned out before the winter.
  10. Proper installation is key to a functional roof. We ensure that the roof has been installed as per manufacturer specifications. That’s one of the reasons it’s important for us to know the brand and age of the roof.

We evaluate your roof for both damage and performance. You’ll be able to read every part of our evaluation in your inspection report. If there’s damage, we’ll recommend how you can fix it, and provide you pictures to highlight where the damage is and why it needs to be fixed.
